Extra Curricular Activities

Scoil Aiséirí Chríost endeavours to provide an all round education for its pupils and following in the strong musical tradition of the Northside of Cork City many musical instruments are taught in the school. Games are also very much to the fore with camogie, basketball, volleybally, swimming and athletics proving very popular with our students. An after school HomeWork club gives children the opportunity to do homework in a structured environment conducive to learning.

The School Band regularly showcases its excellence by performing at Feis Maitiú, Cór Fhéile na Scól, UCC, Carol Services and other special occasions such as visits by dignitaries.

Volleyball

The fifth class volley ball teams have been busy for the past few weeks training for the J4 Volleyball Tournament. The tournament was held on Monday February 12th 2008 in Scoil Aiséirí Chríost. Two teams from the school participated in the tournament. Farranree Superstars won and Farranree Wildcats took second place. Farranree Superstars qualified for the Regional Final.

Camogie

There has been a great interest from the current fifth class girls this year to take part in the camogie competitions with as high as twenty-eight taking part in our training. Out of that twenty-eight, ten were fortunate enough to take part in an in-door blitz on Wednesday, 6th of February in Doneraile. There were three other schools involved in this competition. While our own girls were unfortunate in the first two matches they really shone in our third and final match, keeping the opposing team, Presentation Girls N.S. on their toes. With three outstanding goals from Shauna Murphy, Natalie O’ Riordan and Amber Dalton along with some great saves from our goalie Katlyn Buckley, we kept them at a draw until the final minute when the opposition got the winning goal. All in all the ten girls did us proud and we had a great day out. Hopefully with some more training under our belts we will put up a tough fight in the Sciath na Scol outdoor competition.
